Steel Sheet Piling EMV

EMV’s are simply attached via a bracket to the excavator, enabling a speedy and cost-effective method of sheet pile installation and extraction.

Excavator Mounted Vibrators are specifically designed as pile driving and extracting attachments for excavators. they have a high power/weight ratio due to their high operating frequency and an added advantage is the ability to apply an additional vertical force from the excavator if needed to assist driving.

The Excavator Mounted Vibrator (EMV) can be attached to the excavator in two ways either via a bracket directly to the dipper arm and plumbed into the excavator’s hydraulic system, or via the VibroSafe Quick Hitch Adaptor. this exclusive design is a quick hitch adaptor which can be used with a fully automatic quick hitch coupler with no human intervention required.

The EMV is of a slim design to enable it to drive between adjacent upstanding piles. If required however, the clamp can be removed and refitted at 90 degrees enabling piling to be carried out close to an existing structure.

Steel Sheet Piling Side Grip Technology

Side grip technology allows the excavator to pick up piles and grip them by thier side and rotate them horizontally and vertically. This allows the pile to be driven into the ground from the side and the top of the pile.

This type of system is fast and flexible allowing long piles to be installed relative to operational clearance. This is good for installing and extracting piles up to 12m in length quickly and accurately.

Sheet Piling Services - Hydraulic Drop Hammers

Hydraulic drop hammers are mostly used for the installation of piles into dense ground, be it cohesive or non-cohesive. These hammers have replaced the older style diesel and pneumatic hammers. The use of this type of equipment allows difficult ground to be penetrated with low pile head damage whilst maintaining good positional accuracy.

These units produce high energy output allowing both single and paired pile sheets to be driven.

Sheet Piling Services - Plastic Sheet Piles

Plastic sheet piles are used on softer ground using EMV. They are used on a smaller scale than regular steel piling and are generally used for lower retained heights. Often plastic piling sheets are pre-treated with sealants to create impermeable barriers.

They are often made form recycled materials and are resistant to chemical attack. They are particularly suitable for marine or canal basin walls and flood barrier walls.

Sheet Piling Services - Steel Bearing Piles

Steel bearing piles come as H section or tubular steel. They are made for difficult ground conditions and provide a cost effective solution. They are installed with vibratory or impact hammers.

These type of piles can be removed and re-used at a later date if necessary.

Sheet Piling Services - King Post Walls

King post walls are erected using vertical H beams that are installed into the ground. Between them a wall is erected using horizontal concrete or timber panels. In the correct conditions these can be useful for both permanent or even temporary works.

Sheet Piling

Sheet Piling is the holding back or retaining of substances, i.e. earth, water etc. as against Steel Piling which is designed for structural and load bearing applications. Sheet Piles are used for making cofferdams, which come in many shapes and sizes. The properties of steel mean that sheet piles can be used to resist tensile as well as comprehensive loads and they can be designed for bending. These piles provide excellent impact resistance and high strength in both compression and tension.

Piles interlock to form a continuous wall of sheet piling using a mechanical connection. They are most often used to create a rigid barrier for earth and water while resisting the lateral pressures of those bending forces. Sheet Piling is versatile and widely used as a quick and cost effective method of installing cofferdams and retaining walls, both on temporary works and permanent structures.

Sheet Piles are extremely versatile and so can be used for River and Coastal Protection, Docks, Quaysides, Underground Basements, Covered Tunnels, Embankment Supports, Containment in contaminated areas, as all piles can be sealed using sealant to form a water tight seal.

Sheet Piling Services - Temporary Works

Temporary piling works are common in the contruction industry and Miller Site Services are adept in this part of the industry. We can provide temporary works services that include hire, sale and buy back schemes that can suit most budgets or requirements. We can provide installation or extraction of sheet piling only with long or short term rental of steel sheet piles and equipment.

Miller site Services have proven track record in the design, supply, installation & extraction of sheet piles to form temporary cofferdams and retaining walls for underground tanks, access jetties, drive and reception pits and any other application where earthworks support is required to ensure ground stability during the construction process.

Our sheet piling equipment is modern and our approach is client centred as we endeavour to identify cost effective solutions. Our approach is low impact in terms of the environment and we always recycle and re-use steel from our temporary works.

Sheet Piling Services - Permanent Retaining Walls

Sheet piling offers cost effective solutions for areas where there is a need for permanent retaining walls. They can be used on a small scale or a large scale on projects that range from being simple to complex. They are a good alternative to secant and contiguous concrete walls.

Most often steel sheet piles are used as the permanent retaining structure on projects where there is minimal space available for complex temporary works which would be required to allow construction of alternative retaining solutions, or where the cost and programme benefits of permanent sheet piling dictates this to be the best retaining solution.

Once installed the steel sheet piles are able to be coated, clad, sealed or welded for purpose. It is also possible to cap the sheet piles with a variety of materials including concrete, timber and steel.

Steel sheet piling offers distinct advantages over concrete as they are more cost effective and require no curing time allowing instant excavations to take place. Any hydrostatic pressure behind a wall can be dispersed through filters or weep holes.

Conventional Steel Sheet Piling

This process is used regularly on the likes of cofferdams, jetties, bridge piers, retaining walls, inland waterways and other tidal locations.

The process uses temporary gates or guide frames, comprising of beams and trestles known as 'spud' piles. These provide support for either tubular or sheet piles, which are then driven using either vibratory or impact hammers.

Marine Piling Services

Miller Site Services are specialists in marine piling. Much of our piling work is of a marine nature and we work extensively on inland waterways, rivers and harbours.

At MIller Site Services much of our Marine Piling works have included dock wall stabilisation, quay walls, jetties, slipways, tubular piles and mooring dolphins. We work in both tidal and intertidal and land based zones.

We are able to competently and safely undertake this type of demanding work.

Sheet Piling Services - Rail Services

Many of the piling techniques that we utilise are particularly suitable for the rail sector, allowing safe installation in often unstable and sensitive embankment locations or retaining walls in close proximity to live assets.

Many of the new piling technologies are widely used in this industry and are compatible with road-rail vehicles.

Sheet Piling Services - Sheet Pile Basements

Miller Site Services design and construct Steel Intensive Sheet Pile Basements.Sheet piles are utilised as the permanent sheet pile retaining walls for underground basement construction. This can be applied to underground car parks, pumping stations, basement, storage tanks and many other applications where underground retaining structures are required.

Permanent sheet pile basements can bring significantly reduced costs and programme benefits over traditional reinforced concrete basement construction and also secant or contiguous piled walls.

Silent Steel Sheet Piling

Noise and vibration levels created by conventional vibration and percussive piling equipment is often unacceptable, particularly in environmentally sensitive areas, such as towns and city centres, hospitals, adjacent to existing structures, or embankment slopes. Using Silent Piling sheet pile installation and extraction that is also vibration free is a great solution.

Miller Site Services have many years experience in installing and extracting sheet piles in the most environmentally sensitive locations with no vibration and virtually no noise.

The pile press is effective in both granular and cohesive soils, and a pushing force of up to 150 tonnes for pile installation and 160 tonnes for pile extraction can be generated using previously installed sheet piles for reaction. In dense granular or stiff cohesive soils, auxiliary techniques can be adopted including ‘water jetting’ and ‘pre-augering’ to assist pile installation.
